By mistake

Hi. If you thought that I forgot about my blog, you were wrong. I just didn’t have time to write anything. But now, I have an interesting story. You probably don’t know, but I am preparing to launch a digitizing “company,” and we will digitize old tapes, records, etc. And I needed a system to manage all of this in. So I opened up Notepad++ and started writing.

But I wanted to make it a little harder on myself. So I decided to write this application fully in PHP. I never used PHP, but after a little bit of looking on my downloaded version of W3Schools (Yes, I let my computer run for 15 hours to download W3Schools, so I can code without WiFi or cellular. My laptop has an internal SIM slot, but I never used it. But I would like to.) I was able to make something that worked.

But about halfway into the project, I realized that this could be a normal standalone application. Because I just wanted to have something that I can use. I tried to use Microsoft Access that comes with the Office 2013 pack; I even downloaded a template. It was awesome, until I tried to actually use it. I didn’t know anything. How to save orders, how to generate random IDs for my customers, nothing. So I just started coding.

Which meant that I made a fully working app, by mistake. And now, we come to the conclusion, that if you are a programmer and do not want to learn the basics of some janky app from Microsoft (or any other company), just make your own janky app. You don’t need to care about the fact that your app may be even worse than the one you were planning to use, but that is not important. The important thing is, that you know how to use it, and have another app to put on your GitHub (GitHub Link).

So I hope you learned something and I wish you a good day. Bye!
